The Next Step You’re up and about and wearing white — fantastic! So what next? Why not take the opportunity today to contact your elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels, to let them know how you feel about women’s rights? Let them know that you’re watching their votes and that you will remember how they treat women come election time. Encourage them to stand with us, and thank the ones who already do. Most of all, just make the contact. Their job is to represent you. They should know how you feel. Here’s our suggestion — edit at will, or write your own. A personal message is always best. I am contacting you today in regards to women’s right that are currently coursing through our nation’s consciousness and raising extremely high levels of concern for all of us who value women’s freedom and the equanimity that should be as available to women as equality is to any subgroup of people. The support of any of the bills currently in debate in congress about women’s rights, specifically but not limited to, reproductive rights, is the one of the most egregious acts of discrimination and sexism that I, one of your constitutes, have ever experienced. I encourage you to fight against these bills, to stop allowing them any debate in session, and to definitely not let them pass into law. I am sending you this email today to remind you: that women deserve honesty from their doctors - 100% of the time that a fetus’s life is not more important that the mother’s that state sanctioned rape is still rape and not ok that it is not ok to charge a mother with attempted murder for a miscarriage that it is not ok to force women to carry a stillborn baby to term that it is not ok to take away the funding of women to receive medical treatment to make a political point that it is not ok to fire a woman because she is taking a medicine you disagree with More over, I am writing you to remind you that I voted you in, and I can vote you out too. For these and many other reasons I am asking you to stop allowing laws to be introduced that restrict access of a single subset of people, in this case, women, into even the debate among the legislation of both state and country. Stop these bills before they start, and if you cannot, then stop them before they pass. Thank you. Find out how to contact your elected officials.

The Next Step

You’re up and about and wearing white — fantastic! So what next? War on Women? Pushback against legislation gaining ground

A new movement is pushing back against a growing list of legislation targeted at women.

“The ongoing war against women is being challenged,” said Edna Kunkel, Wisconsin’s liaison for the group United Against the War on Women.

A protest is planned on Saturday, April 28, on the Capitol grounds in Madison.

The organization has already gained 1,500 supporters in the state and 20,000 nationwide. The immediate impetus is what they see as an assault on reproductive rights, and they aren’t alone.

Meet-Up: Houston, Texas

Going to be in or near Houston, Texas on April 2nd?

  • Meet at Brasil’s Coffee, at the corner of Westimer and Dunleavy at 6pm.
  • Proceed to walk to Empire at the corner of Westimer and Woodhead. We hear it’s half-price cake day, so you can celebrate your support of women with sugary treats.
  • Or, walk further to Dietrich’s on Montrose at West Alabama.

We’re still looking for someone to serve as the “point” person for this meet-up, so if you’re interested in taking that on, PM the blog or let us know on FB.

Meet-Up: New York City

Going to be wearing white in the Big Apple on April 2nd? Reesa and Jasmine are organizing a meet-up so that you can show off your women’s rights wardrobe and take a stand together!

  • Meet up at Grand Central Station, in the Main Hall (where the ceiling is pretty).
  • ETA: Specifically, between Tracks 29 and 30!
  • This meet-up will have two sessions, to accommodate as many schedules as possible: Join us from 3-3:30, or 5-5:30. Or both, if you have the time free!
  • From there, proceed to walk around Grand Central Station en masse, to make a striking visual impact.
  • After the initial meet-up, feel free to split off into smaller groups for food and shopping. It’s a big place with a lot of ground to cover, so this may be a good way to reach more people.

Whether you can make it to Grand Central or not, thank you so much for participating, wherever you are. New York has always played a proud role in the women’s rights movement (as many of those suffragist pictures we’ve posted to the blog have shown), and we’re thrilled you’ll be standing with us on April 2nd.

Meet-Up: Staunton, Virginia

If you are someone who has signed up to participate who will be in or able to get to downtown Staunton, VA on Monday, April 2nd:

  • Meet around 5:30pm at the Hardy Parking Lot at the corner of Beverley and Market (by the Dixie movie theater).
  • We will take a casual stroll, looping through downtown — up Frederick, down Beverley, then down to Johnson, ending at the Wharf.
  • From there, I suggest we divide and conquer to some of the downtown restaurants. I wouldn’t want to overwhelm any one of them with too large a party, and of course, we’ll be visible to more people if we split up to different locations.
  • Can only make it for dinner? PM me for my cell phone number, and ping me when you’re close to downtown — I’ll be able to point you towards a restaurant where other folk are.

If you know of someone who lives in or near Staunton, pass this message along! I would love to get as many people together as possible.

Whether you can join us for the meet-up or not, I want to thank you for signing up to participate in the event. I’m so pleased and proud to have so many friends, both locally and across the country, who are willing to take a stand.

Welcome, new followers!

The Facebook Event now has 1500 registered participants!!! Whoo-hoo! We are so, so happy to have so many people who will be standing with us 5 days from now. Thank you, each and every one of you.

So — with that in mind, I’m reposting the round-up of what we’ve been doing so far, for anyone who missed anything:
